The part nobody warns you about
Readers can't prove it was AI. They don't need to.
It reads fine to you. That is the problem. A professor hears it by the second paragraph, a client by the second line, and what comes after is a meeting you didn't book or a proposal that goes quiet.
20%
of drafts written entirely by a person still get flagged as AI by the usual checkers

Typos
Some people are adding them on purpose now, just to sound less smart
ClearScript finds the lines that read like a machine and rewrites them so nobody has to wonder. Including you.
The launch memo reads clearly, but several lines use the same polished rhythm.
Each sentence starts with a broad claim before moving into generic support.
The core idea is strong and the examples are specific enough to keep.
A quick rewrite would make the draft sound less templated.

How to check a draft for AI
Three steps, under 30 seconds
1
Paste your text
Drop your draft straight into the editor, up to 10,000 words a scan. What comes back is an AI likelihood signal, not a verdict on who wrote it.
2
Run the scan
Click Detect AI and get results in seconds. ClearScript checks output patterns from ChatGPT, GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, and more
3
See the report and fix what was flagged
Read the sentence-level results, rewrite the highlighted parts with the AI Humanizer, then rescan before you send or hand it in. Whatever you submit, follow the rules your school, employer, client or platform sets for AI help.

Know what your number means
A scan returns one score from 0 to 100 for the document plus a score for every sentence inside it. The document number is the average of those sentence scores, weighted by how long each sentence is, and the report groups the five labels into three colours so a long draft stays quick to read. Here is exactly where the lines sit, which is more than most detectors publish.
Human
0 to 24
Reads like a person wrote it. Sentence length moves around, the word choices are not the obvious ones, and the argument wanders a little the way real thinking tends to.
Likely human
25 to 39
Mostly your voice with a few tidy stretches. Common in work you have proofread three times, which is a good thing to have done and an awkward thing to be scored on.
Uncertain
40 to 67
The model will not commit. Short samples, technical writing and heavily revised drafts land here, and so does genuinely mixed authorship. This is the band where the sentence view earns its keep.
Likely AI
68 to 77
Enough pattern to be worth a look. Usually generated text someone has already been through by hand, or human writing that has settled into a template.
AI
78 to 100
A strong, consistent signal running through the whole document. Raw model output that nobody has edited almost always sits up here. It means the writing carries the patterns of machine text, it does not tell you who typed it, and the line moves a little every time we recalibrate.
The 99.8% is ClearScript on our benchmark set, with these bands and this model. Every detector runs its own, which is why the same paragraph can come back with different numbers from different tools. Your score tells you the draft needs a pass. The sentence view tells you which lines.
What to do when your own writing gets flagged
Honest work trips detectors, and the causes are boringly consistent once you know what to look for. Find yours here, then open the sentence view and loosen the lines carrying the score.
You write in a second language
Writing in a language you learned tends toward safer vocabulary, cleaner grammar and more even sentence length, because that is what you were taught and what you can check yourself. Detectors read that regularity as a machine signal. It is the most common reason honest work gets flagged and it is genuinely unfair.
You edited the life out of it
Grammar tools, style checkers and a fourth round of self-editing all push a draft toward the same tidy average. The more passes it takes, the more it reads as optimised writing, which is exactly what a model produces on its first try.
The format is strict
Lab reports, literature reviews, legal summaries and structured abstracts follow a fixed shape on purpose. A model writing in the same genre reproduces that shape, so the overlap is real and you cannot edit it away without breaking the format you were told to use.
The sample is short
Under a couple of hundred words there is not much variation to read. Sentences below eight words are deliberately scored near the middle with low confidence, so a short paragraph can move between scans while your text stays exactly the same.
The subject is technical
There are only so many ways to describe a titration, a REST endpoint or a case holding. Where the correct phrasing is close to fixed, everyone writing about it sounds alike, models included.
False positives are the part of this category nobody enjoys discussing. No detector avoids them, ours included, which is exactly why we measure ours and publish the number.
ClearScript benchmark on 130,000+ writing samples: 99.8% accuracy, with under 0.2% of human-written samples returned as AI.
If it happens to you, work from the sentence view instead of arguing with the headline number. Find the lines carrying the score, loosen the ones that read as templated, and keep your drafts and your notes, because your own writing history convinces a person far faster than a counter-scan from another tool.

AI detector or plagiarism checker?
The two names get used as if they mean the same thing. They answer different questions, and a lot of unnecessary panic comes from mixing them up.

The question it asks
AI detector
Does this writing carry the statistical habits of a language model?
Plagiarism checker
Does this writing already exist somewhere else?
What it compares against
AI detector
A model of how machine-generated text behaves. There is no source document to match against, because there is no source.
Plagiarism checker
An index of published pages, journals and previously submitted papers, compared passage by passage.
What the result proves
AI detector
A probability. It tells you the writing reads a certain way, and it stops there.
Plagiarism checker
An overlap you can open and read for yourself. Either the source is there or it is not.
When you want it
AI detector
Before you hand in a draft you wrote with AI help, so you can find the parts that read as generated and fix them yourself.
Plagiarism checker
When you need to be sure every quote is cited and no paragraph has been lifted.
Where ClearScript sits
AI detector
A document score, a score for every sentence, and a rewrite path in the same workspace when a passage needs a more natural pass.
Plagiarism checker
ClearScript does not run plagiarism checks, and no AI detector replaces one. Cite your sources properly either way.
An AI detector is a tool that reads a piece of writing and estimates how likely it is that a language model produced it, returning a probability score rather than proof of who wrote it.
Nothing inside a document records where its words came from, so a detector has only the writing itself to work with: rhythm, word choice, structure, how much the sentences vary.
Because the answer is a probability, it misses in both directions. Careful human writing scores high sometimes, and heavily reworked AI scores low.
ClearScript scores every sentence on its own as well as the document, so you can see which lines are carrying the number.
Check a draft in nine languages
You do not have to tell the detector what language you pasted. It reads the text, works out the language, and scores it on how machine writing behaves in that language, without translating anything first. That matters more than it sounds, because a model gives itself away differently depending on what it is writing in. The usual non-English tells are calques, meaning English sentence patterns carried across word for word, a register more formal than a native speaker would reach for, and phrasing that is perfectly correct while still reading like it came out of English.
ClearScript ships in ten versions covering nine languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Indonesian, and Portuguese in both a Brazilian and a European version. That covers the interface, the report and the rewriting tools, so you are never reading a result in one language about a draft written in another.
One honest caveat. English is where every detector in this category has the most evidence behind it, ours included, so English scores are the steadiest. The signal holds up in the other eight, but on a borderline non-English result, work from the sentence highlights rather than the number at the top, then rescan once you have loosened the lines it marked.
Use AI support without losing your voice
ClearScript is here to help you write clearer, more original, more natural prose, and to make it easy to show the work is yours. Keep the trail while you write: version history in Google Docs or Word, your notes, your outline, the ugly second draft, the sources you actually opened. That record settles a question far faster than a score from any tool, ours included. Follow the rules your school, workplace, client, publisher or platform sets on AI help, keep the trail, and you have nothing to explain away.

Questions about the AI detector
Is the AI detector free to use?
You can run a check on this page without a card. We ask for your email to open the full report, and the scan itself costs you nothing. Rewriting is the paid part, because every rewrite runs on heavy models the moment you press the button.
How does ClearScript detect AI?
Most detectors only catch raw AI output. ClearScript reads the full draft in three passes. Signal analysis looks at word choice, sentence rhythm and structural repetition across the whole document. A context check compares each line against the draft around it, so formal, heavily edited or non-native writing gets read in context instead of in isolation. The confidence report then gives you a document score, a score and a highlight for every sentence, and a clear next step for the parts worth rewriting. That third pass is also why edited AI still shows up: the habits a rewriter or a grammar tool leaves behind are patterns too.
Which AI models can ClearScript check?
ChatGPT, GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Llama, and edited AI drafts passed through rewriters or grammar tools.
What happens if my text is flagged?
You see the highlighted lines and can humanize them inside the same workspace.
Is the detector always right?
No detector is perfect. Treat the score as a writing signal, not a final judgment of authorship.
Can educators use it?
Yes. Use sentence-level reports as context for review, not as the only basis for a decision.
Is my text private?
Yes. Your text is processed for the requested result and is not used to train public AI models.
Can ClearScript tell me how another detector will score my text?
No, and be careful with any tool that says it can. ClearScript scores your draft with its own model, and every detector uses a different one, so the numbers will not match across tools. Use the sentence highlights to fix the writing itself. That improvement survives every reader, human or machine.
My draft got flagged and I wrote it myself. What now?
Detectors score patterns, not authorship, and honest work does get caught by them. Formal writing, a heavily proofread draft, and writing in a language you learned are the usual causes, and the section on why real writing gets flagged goes through each one. Open the sentence view, find the lines carrying the signal, and loosen the ones that read as templated. Keep your drafts and notes too, because your own writing history is the most convincing thing you have.
Do you share my results with my school or employer?
No. Your scores and drafts stay in your account. We do not share results with schools, employers, publishers, or anyone else.
Can ClearScript spot AI text that has been paraphrased or reworded?
Usually, yes. The report gives you a best guess mix across three buckets: human, AI written, and AI rewritten or humanized, because machine text that has been through a rewriter keeps different habits from raw output or from a draft you typed yourself. Be realistic about the limits though. The heavier the rewrite, the weaker the signal gets, and a passage you have genuinely rethought instead of reshuffled will read as human, which is the correct answer.
Can it tell when only part of my text is AI?
That is what the sentence view is for. Every sentence gets its own score, its own label and its own highlight, and the document number is the average of those weighted by sentence length instead of one verdict on the whole file. A mixed draft usually shows the shape you would expect, with the paragraphs you wrote sitting low and the parts you generated sitting high, which tells you where your editing time is worth spending.
What AI detector do teachers and universities use?
It depends on the institution, and most of the time it is whatever is already built into the system you submit through, which at university level is often Turnitin. ClearScript is benchmarked against GPTZero, Turnitin, and Originality.ai, but it is a separate tool running its own model with no connection to any of them, so the numbers will not line up.
How much text do I need for the score to mean anything?
Give it a few paragraphs. Around two hundred words is where a score starts to settle. Below that there is not enough variation to read, sentences under eight words are scored near the middle with low confidence on purpose, and the same short paragraph can move between scans without you touching a word of it. One scan takes up to 10,000 words, and a longer document gives the sentence view far more to work with.
Do scans use up my word balance?
No. Detection does not touch your word balance, so rescanning a draft while you work on it costs you nothing. Your words go to the tools that write: humanizing, paraphrasing and grammar fixes. Each scan takes up to 10,000 words.
How do I show that my work is actually mine?
Keep the trail. Version history in Google Docs or Word, your notes, your outline, the ugly second draft, the sources you actually opened. That record convinces a person far more than a score from any tool, ours included. If a flag comes up, bring the process instead of a counter-scan from another detector, and asking which tool produced the number and what its published false-positive rate is stays a fair question.
What is the best AI detector?
There is no single answer, and anyone naming one is usually naming their own. Judge a detector on three things: whether it publishes a false-positive rate, whether it shows you the sentences behind the score instead of a bare percentage, and whether it tells you plainly that the result is a probability. ClearScript publishes its bands and scores every sentence for exactly that reason.
What does your draft look like to a detector?
Start with a scanScanning costs you nothing and never touches your word balance. Rewriting the flagged lines is the paid part, and every plan includes all four tools.
